The Early Education Quality Improvement Program

EQUIP supports Philadelphia ECE programs on their growth journeys. It is a no cost initiative that partners with early childhood programs to build on their strengths, celebrate their successes, and support their next steps in quality growth.

Through coaching, collaboration, and capacity-building, EQUIP walks alongside programs at STAR 2 as they prepare for STAR 3 or STAR 4 designation. Advancing to higher Keystone STARS levels not only reflects a program’s commitment to excellence but also expands opportunities for children, families, and educators alike.

Funded by the William Penn Foundation, EQUIP provides individualized and strength-based supports that honor each program’s unique identity and community. The focus is on enhancing program quality through cultivating inclusive environments, elevating educator and leader capacity, and co-designing strategies that help programs thrive.

EQUIP provides:

Strength-based coaching for teachers and administrators that builds on existing practices.

Tailored professional learning shaped by each program’s goals and needs.

Quality Improvement Funds to help secure materials that enhance learning environments.

Observation opportunities in high-quality classrooms to see best practices in action.

Engagement and on-site mentoring with experienced educators and directors and educators from STAR 3 and STAR 4 programs.

Professional Learning Communities, where First Up coaches facilitate collaborative spaces for educators and leaders to share knowledge, reflect on practice, and co-create approaches that sustain professional growth.
