Infant Toddler Proficiency Certificate Program

Aspire to make early education your career, but not sure you’re ready to jump into college full-time? Our free Infant Toddler Proficiency Certificate program, offered in partnership with the Early Childhood Education Professional Development Organization (ECE PDO), builds your understanding and skill level for working with infants and toddlers while offering a full college experience in a very supportive environment.

Program includes:

  • Three college-level courses, taught by experienced First Up instructors. You may choose Community College of Philadelphia, Delaware County Community College, or Esperanza College at Eastern University. Our Esperanza instructor is fluent in both Spanish and English, offering added support for Spanish-speaking educators.
  • Each class is 45 hours of instruction. Courses run from late August to early June. Complete all three and you’ll be eligible for 9 college credits when you successfully matriculate and complete one required course at your partnering institution.
  • Instructors offer office hours and individual help with writing and technology. Technology assistance may be available for those who need a loan of a computer and support in learning how to use a computer for class.

Who is eligible:

  • Participants are selected via an application process. Eligibility for the program is determined and monitored by the ECE PDO. Eligibility includes full-time employment of 25 hours or more, residence in PA, desire to enroll and continue in college courses. Other eligibility requirements can be found at https://ecepdo.phmc.org/programs.
  • Applications are due by July 31 for consideration for the upcoming school year. We will be happy to help you provide more information on the program or assist you in completing the application. For questions> (LINKS TO proficiencycertificate@firstup.org
